WOOT!!! So, summer school. Sucked ass. I agreed to it, but I had no idea how much time it would take! Geez!

HOWEVER - I have successfully completed one semester of geometry, two semesters of English and one semester of computers with a B-, A and B+. Geometry (so far) has been easier than algebra! I can touch the shapes and that helps a lot!

This means that for the fall I'll be taking:

Chemistry
English III
American History
Spanish II
Dance (wth?)
Public Speaking
Geometry (2nd semester)

Can't you take like. Self-defense or swimming or something? I'd volunteer to make sure you don't drown.

Uh...that would mean changing my IEP. but I'd like to take self defense. that could be cool.

So what's it take to change your IEP?

Meetings with lots of people. like, the school and my social worker and someone with the school board or whatever.

This is a small change though, so maybe just an email or something.

Are you working with anybody specifically on your powers?

Yeah, Kyle. Our powers are most similar.

Cool. I'll talk to him and see if he thinks it'd be a good idea. And then I can maybe check with the administration here or whatever. It'd probably be a good idea to see how your powers work for myself, too - see if you can do what I'm thinking you can do.

Sweet. So, potential bio-son, you should explain to me how Matt's powers work in a way that makes sense - small words are acceptable, I won't be offended - and let me know if I can help with things.

I had a thought about basically working with him with a staff, since he's already familiar with how his stick thing works. It wouldn't be much of a shift and he could apply the knowledge with his actual stick if he needed to - that thing's metal. It hurts when he whacks you with it.

Yeah, it also hurts when he punches you in the face. I think the tricky thing (dude, Matt, sorry about like talking about you in your own journal) is gonna be like explaining things without saying "Okay, copy what I'm doing" which is totally how I usually teach physical stuff. Which might mean a lot of hands on.

it's cool. And yeah, I'm bad at copying someone.

Not necessarily a problem, though. Just talk him through it and correct his stance or whatever as you go along. It's like yoga instructors. Or when you're teaching the kata. Or boxing, for that matter. You know, "Hold the stick out vertically, twist it to the side, beat the crap out of the dummy." Or whatever. And fix his elbow positioning when he moves it wrong.

Okay, so like, officially I can do jack. But unofficially I can write IEPs, I know the like right words and what stuff had to be documented and all that. I'm even professional about it. Was part of one of my classes last semester, Disability Education and stuff. I'm not certified yet, but we can sit down and figure stuff out and I can do like a draft to save a step? I'm sure the Prof'll approve it, and that'll save you most of the steps.

BTWS, if I'm guessing right, you can take PE, you just don't GOTTA take it to graduate, and same with self-defense - actually that's just a mansion thing, not part of your grad requirements, so just sign up. Hell, I've pitched in there before with Dori when she was having issues, I can pitch in with you too if you think it'll help. Might be able to give you a better take on using senses to fight than Lex or Cal - Cal might have mad skills there though, she did kinda live in sewers for a while.

and yes, see, that's what I meant about the not taking PE thing. Because NY does not require it and all that.

we could do that with my powers. because until now we've been working mainly on control, but...I'm getting decent at it now.

Yeah, my prof said they have a bunch of specialized PE classes for people who can't take regular PE in some places but we don't have the staff here so it'll have to be like, tailored just for you.

Really? I've never had that. I did gymnastics for years at the Y, but never competed or anything. I wasn't supposed to take it, technically, because I was blind, but the lady who ran it was a friend of my dad's and she let me fool around anyways. I've always been exempt at school though.

The way I understood it and dude I got a B in the class, was that they're required to try to accommodate you first, and if they can't, then they pull it from your requirements but the city's got some programs for people with disabilities but PE's a bitch to setup for kids with vision issues cause there's a lot of risk.

Yeah, basically. The school I used to go to didn't want to fool with it. Sounding balls are expensive and all that for one kid. And I'm too over qualified for special ed PT or whatever.

Yeah, I gotta feeling your IEPs got stuff in it you're not, uh, no offense intended, seeing. If they pulled you outta PE and didn't want to let you take it, it's more than just the blind thing. They could've made you run laps or something if it was just the blind thing, or do weight training.

Hey, as long as you're up for self-defense we can work it out with the Prof, and with Lex and Cal to make sure it works for you and I'd bet Kurt's got a plan already in place for you and Dance.

Yeah, I didn't pay attention to mine until interpreting it turned into an extra credit assignment for my class last semester. I had some overlapping stuff like WHOA. Extended test time, distraction-free setting but background noise because I've got issues with like really quiet rooms and geez, I feel bad for Doc Samson and the Prof when they wrote that thing up.
