The Pope passed.
I can't say I'm all that shocked given his age, though the memes coming out from it are amazing. I'm much more concerned about who will be elected the next Pope and how they will guide the church going forward.

Date: 2025-04-21 07:30 pm (UTC)I haven't had an opportunity yet to do a deep dive, but from my brief overview, the Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle looks not only be a clear front runner in popularity, but will continue the progressive path started by Pope Francis and is young enough to have more than a few years in the Papacy.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin (Italy) is a little older, a lot more moderate, but has had a strong diplomatic presence for the Vatican for years. So he certainly has a solid base.
Cardinal Peter Turkson (Ghana) is the oldest, but still progressive. He's very outspoken on human rights, and I've supported him for years. His age though makes me nervous.
